PARIS, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Petra Kvitova managed to return to the quarterfinals at Roland Garros for the first time since 2012 after a comfortable 6-2, 6-4 dismissal of China's Zhang Shuai in the opening game on Court Philippe-Chatrier on Monday.
"Despite only one week, she has improved a lot since we met last time. She is very young, but she has got everything on the court. Last time in Strasbourg, she didn't go into the game so quickly and played not so steadily. But this time, I can feel her confidence has boosted after winning two rounds at a Grand Slam," said Zhang, who defeated Burel 6-3, 7-6(3) in the Strasbourg Open before coming to Paris.
Mainz were unable to gain a foothold into the first half and had to wait until the 38th minute to get their first chance on target, as Jean-Philippe Mateta's header came close.

"After a tight first half, we did well on defense and rebounds in the second half," Xinjiang coach Gao Fengjuan explained.
